NAME: William “Billy” Kaplan
CANON: Marvel 616
AGE: 18
CANON POINT: End of Young Avengers Vol 2

HISTORY: Wikia
PERSONALITY:
At first glance, Billy Kaplan does appear to be just a normal, nerdy teenager. He loves musicals, Tolkien, ASOIAF--loves comics, and is a huge fan of the Avengers themselves. He's not ashamed of who he is in the least, either; Billy is very loud about the things he enjoys, and isn't afraid to flaunt it. There's nothing wrong with being oneself, is there? And despite being bulled in school for it, Billy has never once hid that he's gay. It's gotten fists in his face, he's been called every name in the book, but he's not ashamed, or embarrassed. It's part of himself, and he accepts every bit of that.

Even though At the same time, Billy is full of confidence issues. He gets anxiety, he doesn't think he's good enough. He doesn't like himself most the time, even if he does believe it's important to be able to accept himself and his faults. As a reality warper, he's able to change a lot of things around him. Wish things into existence, warp them to fit his needs but he's never, ever been able to get a spell to work that'd fix himself. And that does hurt, sometimes. But he has a great support system that backs him up, too. Tells him that he's alright just as he is.

It's especially important given his overly weird history. Billy himself was born into the Kalpan family of Chelsea, New York--but as it turns out? His soul was originally one of the twins the Scarlet Witch and Vision had, which is what led to him developing his own set of mutant capabilities. Another aspect of his person he had to learn and accept: being not quite fully human. Not that it was hard--he's always been bullied for being different, being a mutant was just another aspect to add on top of that.

And it gave him the ability to become a hero. Billy has a very strict moral code and sense of self. He won't kill anyone, and becomes sick the one time someone pushes him into almost wishing for it by dissecting his (alien shapeshifter with some intense healing capabilities)boyfriend in front of him. The idea he's even capable of committing such a crime is terrifying, and he hates it. He helps those who need it, even if it means putting himself into terrifying positions. To that end, he won't let anyone push him into anything he's uncomfortable with. If Billy wants to? He will. If he doesn't, no one will ever convince him into breaking his own code.

He's strong, powerful, on his way to becoming the most powerful witch in all of history and defining the rules of magic itself one day. It's a lot to handle. But he has absolutely zero confidence in himself or his abilities, too. They may be strong and powerful, but he hasn't learned to control them. It's enough that a few wordplay games with Loki can shake his confidence down to his core and destroy what bits Billy had managed to pull together.

When things do get bad? Billy withdraws hard. He pulls himself back and away from everything, falls into depressive slumps so bad he'll barely move, barely talk for months on end. It's--hard to deal with life, but he's trying. Everything is a process, and he's willing to fight for it.

But he also has the tendency to get snappy, too. Billy doesn't have a good brain to mouth filter when angered, and tends to just spout the first thing that comes to mind. It gets him in a lot of shit, and he's quick to realize when he has made a mistake and is more than willing to apologize when he knows he's in the wrong. But apologizing doesn't always fix what's already come out of his mouth.

On the surface? He tries to keep most of his mess to himself, to people he cares about and is close to. Outside of bad moods and terrible weeks, he's relatively friendly. Billy never hesitates to lend a helpful hand to someone in need, he smiles easy, laughs and tells snarky jokes. He's open about himself, about what he is and who--Billy is never shy about that. He can be forward and assertive when he thinks he's making a good point, and has been shown to grow into a wonderful, empathetic leader later in life.

He has amazing potential and the capability of growing out of bad habits, and while he hits bad times where his cynicism runs rampant, Billy is full of hope, too. Believes in people, in the world. Even if he can contradict that entirely and shut out everything when he's having a bad day. He'll downplay his problems at bad times, or build them up when he really shouldn't. But the contradictory nature also suits: Billy wields Chaos magic, he's the future Demiurge, and that comes with building on both sides: hope and hopelessness, and all the bits and pieces in between.

CRAU: N/A

SPECIES: Mutant
APPEARANCE: beep
SKILLS:
Ninety-five percent of Billy’s “skills” come from his mutant capabilities, so! Forgetting his ability to bend reality to his will, his eletrokinesis cryokinesis, pyrokinesis, conjuring, healing--all that nonsense that comes along with his magic:

He’s not that great at a lot of things. Billy’s overly dramatic at times and knows how to use that to his advantage. He’s a huge nerd, and could pull out book references like you couldn’t believe. He’s familiar with the concept of the multiverse and has traveled it (within Marvel) himself. He can deal with high stress situations, but also tends to shut down after they happen and close himself off. Billy's a living encyclopedia of (marvel) hero knowledge, and knows a fair bit about Norse mythology. He's a terrible cook, can throw a punch if he needs to but not well. He can be a good leader if he puts his mind to it, but often doesn't if someone else steps up first. Skill-wise, he’ll have to work on picking up a lot of them, because frankly? Billy is just a nerdier than average teenager from New York, when one discounts his mutant heritage.

NEW POWER: Bad Luck. The ability to, with touch (through clothes, doesn’t need to be direct contact), cause another individual to experience bad luck. Starts as minor (tripping down stairs, getting their hand stuck in a jar, etc), but with power-ups could get more effective.
POWER REASONING: Billy Kaplan is a Chaos Magic user, a reality warper. At the core of the ability he was born into, he creates chaos. He was also a bullied teen who experienced a lot of bad luck himself, and has the tendency to try to fix things via the worst possible path he can take.
